who's your daddy?

via Brain Pickings here.

This is a really wonderful children's book.

I thought recently what a pity it is that we live in a time where its common for guys to grow up without fathers. Oprah told me that apparently 2/3 men in America are growing up without fathers. That is a LOT of Dadtime missing.
I have met so many lovely people who have had serious issues with their fathers. This is sad and is such a barrier to growing up and moving on from the past.

Apparently it is tribal nature for the 'women' to take care of the children while the men go off and hunt but time's have changed. We don't need spears for supermarket shopping.

My old man, Pops, is my rock. He really grounds me however he also sometimes leads me away from myself unconsciously by worrying about security planting little seeds of doubt in my mind. He doesn't mean to, it is just his way of loving me and perhaps secretly hating me for doing the stuff that he's still not got round to doing yet like Vegas(!).

Anyway, I think Pops would agree with me that if you live to make anyone proud, make yourself proud by having the courage to accept your worth...

So, love and appreciations to the old man anyway, who these days is more of a good mate with amusing fashion sense and good banter. To anyone who's not had a father to create a floor for them to stand on; huge respect and kudos to you, I know that can't be easy but I do believe that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger and perhaps as the world gets increasingly more conscious, this paradigm might also shift.
